We are used to surprises here on Pomeroy Reserve – but didn’t quite expect the birth of a Wildebeest calf on 5 th May and then another this weekend born on the 12th! Normally we would expect calves to be born at the beginning of the year. However, the mothers of these calves were introduced to the reserve at the end of July last year. They settled in well, being quickly taken in to our small group by our dominant bull (himself a youngster). The spring rains which brought about refreshed grazing have also played their part, as all our wildebeest are looking very well. We are still hopeful of maybe another calf but meanwhile these two healthy looking additions to the Pomeroy family are very welcome and delight to see.
